History of CAOBISCO

CAOBISCO is the Association of chocolate, biscuit and confectionery industries of Europe. Founded in Rome in May 1959, the association was initially based in Paris, leaving there in 1985 to settle in Brussels, near the European institutions.

Roles and Objectives

CAOBISCO represents over 1800 companies manufacturing chocolate, biscuits and confectionery.

This high number of companies produces a large turnover and engages in multiple activities, from the purchase of European or international raw materials to exports and imports, all of which have to fit into a legal and economic framework, sometimes poorly defined or unfavourable to companies' development.

In view of this, CAOBISCO is invested with various missions, essential for the protection and promotion of its members' interests.

It represents and defends these interests to Community and international institutions.

CAOBISCO's principal tasks and functions:

  • CAOBISCO's task is to obtain and relay it to its members information on any new project or initiative of interest to its industries

  • As spokesman for the industries of the confectionery sector, CAOBISCO advises and inspires the policymakers responsible for Community and international legislation with an impact on our economic environment, based on argumentation and positions drawn up by the experts on its various committees

  • CAOBISCO works closely and actively with other organizations on dossiers of common interest, to guarantee a consistent legislative framework, propitious to the development of its industries.

  • CAOBISCO's task is also to promote the image of its industries as being responsible and law abiding and to maintain the confidence of the authorities and the consumer.

  • CAOBISCO defends the principles of fair competition and industrial ethics.

  • CAOBISCO also encourages and promotes the spirit of co-operation and solidarity among its members and national representatives.
Each year, CAOBISCO compiles and publishes statistical data on its sectors.
