CAOBISCO CALLS FOR ACTION TO MEET THE ‘LIFESTYLE CHALLENGE’
CAOBISCO, the association representing the chocolate, biscuit and confectionery industries of Europe, today held its first industry conference in Brussels, calling for all actors to input into making the EU healthier.
The conference, entitled ‘CAOBISCO Invites’ placed special emphasis on the lifestyle and diet challenges of the 21st century, looking at issues including EU-level regulation, food labelling, product innovation and advertising.
Highlights included keynote speeches from Bill Newton-Dunn MEP (ALDE) and Neena Gill MEP (PES) alongside speakers from DG Enterprise, DG SANCO, the industry and academia. The conference also provided an opportunity for industry to showcase their recent innovations and continued efforts to embrace the challenge of changing consumer demands and recent regulation.
CAOBISCO President Malachy McReynolds stated that he was “pleased to see such a positive reaction from the policy making community to the steps taken to date by industry.” He went on to add that “today’s conference proved that there is a role for industry in addressing lifestyle issues, and I hope that this will be the start of a fruitful debate on how best CAOBISCO members can continue to work with European level policy and initiatives to help meet the lifestyle challenge.”
